Tonight, we went to Chaoyang Park to the Lantern Festival. While these aren’t my photos, this link should give you a good sense of the magnitude and complexity of the Chinese lanterns we saw. Other Dude’s Photos of the Lantern Festival. I will try to post some of the photos we took.
Unfortunately it was bitterly cold to Madeline and we had to cut the visit to about 30 minutes. But even still, I imagine that we will have fond memories of it because it was truly spectacular.
This event really reminded me of the times when our family is together for the holidays and we would do things like this to get out of the house. Whether it be the Christmas Eve Canyon Road Walk in Santa Fe or our recent visit to the Ice Festival in Dallas (done by the ice sculptors from Harbin). It also reminds me that regardless of race or nationality, we (people of the world) are fundamentally the same when it comes to friends, family, and holiday traditions.
